Air Pods: A Review
Since I was five, I have known the joy of headphones. I would listen to Helen Reddy roar on my little brown Fischer Price cassette player with a small pair of headphones cradling my head. Headphones have been a routine item in my bag for most of my life. I have upgraded them as they have become smaller and developed increased sound quality. When I was 40, I treated myself to a pair of Air Pods, and my life hasn’t been the same since.
Air Pods have changed the way I function in the world. They make being an introvert in public more enjoyable because they create an auditory space I control, allowing me to focus on the task at hand. There is no need to waste energy on auricular distractions. I can groove to Counting Crows, listen to the latest Malcolm Gladwell podcast on the go, and drown out the crying baby on the plane. They are an essential tool in my life.
Since they are wireless, there is no cable to get hooked on stuff. No more catching my headphone cable on a drawer pull while yanking them off. Air Pods function as both speakers and a mic, ideal for talking on the phone or recording voice notes on the go. They provide up to 5 hours of listening or 3 hours of talk time before recharging. The case recharges the Air Pods on the go, providing up to 24 hours of listening and 18 hours of talk time. They also come with multiple sizes of silicone buds that attach to the ends of the pods, making it easy to find a snug and comfortable fit for most users.
The noise-canceling feature is terrific. I can listen to my music and hear the world around me or activate the noise-canceling feature and drown out my surroundings. This feature is invaluable, especially when flying. Sometimes, I put them in my ears and turn on the noise-canceling feature while reading in public. They double as the perfect earplugs, supporting focus and peace.
While some still prefer the traditional headphone design that entirely covers both of their ears, the lightweight and very portable Air Pods are the only headphones for me. Their portability, ease of use, and quality make them a must-have in my purse or backpack. Nearly three years later, my Air Pods work just as well as they did the day I received them. When this pair inevitably wears out, I will buy another. They are an investment in my quality of life and worth every penny.
I wrote this piece while taking Essay and Opinion Writing 1 through Gotham Writers in Spring 2023. This class introduced me to different styles of writing, improve the structure of my essays, and develop better editing and revising skills. I will be sharing some of the pieces I wrote and/or revised in this class over the next few weeks.
