Katieville was a little town in central Missouri, located under the long bench in my grandparents’ house. This vibrant little community had a school, a barn with a silo, a house, and a parking garage. While it didn’t have an airport, it did have a small airplane that serviced the little community. It conducted short-range flights only, no more than the range of my grandparents’ house. Three of the four buildings were constructed by Fisher-Price. The company that built the parking garage is unknown. While the town wasn’t visited by many, those who visited were regulars.

Little people played with Little People there. They rang the house doorbell, drew on the school chalkboard, and opened the barn doors to create a “moo” sound. If you spun the merry-go-round fast enough, you could send all the Little People flying. Fortunately, plastic people don’t need to go to the hospital after an accident.

The town was named after me. I own the buildings that comprised Katieville. It was the first real estate I ever owned. My mom named it after me and left the buildings under the bench so my cousin and I had something to play with. It served as a great entertainment destination for my cousins and I…and any other kids who came over.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Katieville became a ghost town since there were few little people to play with the Little People. It was relocated to higher ground when my grandparents’ house flooded in 1993. It was transported by automobile to the toy box at my mom’s house, where it sits today in darkness. Some of the Little People have been lost and the merry-go-round was taken down because merry-go-rounds are dangerous (as previously noted). The airplane is currently grounded.

Perhaps one day, it will find new life with other little people.
