Enjoy the Moment
You get a special feeling when your furry family members curl up in your lap or snuggles you on the back of the chair. When they pass out in a vulnerable position with their belly exposed or reach out their paw to touch you before dozing off. It’s a special kind of love spell, one that no one wants to break.
I will sit until my bladder is ready to burst, my legs hurt from being asleep, or my stomach is about to collapse from hunger. Once the spell is broken, the cat will likely get distracted by something or stretch and then move to another spot to continue their nap.
These times are sacred, fleeting, and never guaranteed to come again. They can’t be planned.
Life is full of instances like this; however, they will all look different. A child asleep by your side. The listening ear of a fully-present friend. A deep, loud, uncontrollable laugh with your partner. The last moments with an uncle in hospice. Sometimes, they happen without us realizing what we have until later. As we age, wisdom guides us to recognize and take full advantage of these moments. These are the events that provide much-needed soul refueling. They are the sprinkles on the cake of life. They are the silver linings that make a challenging day better. They are the things we will remember years later with a smile and open heart.
So I enjoy the moment for as long as possible until something breaks the spell and the gentle time we share ends. I soak in the love and connection, let it feed me, and fill my memory, heart, and soul.
