Mosaic

I love the energy of the new year. It has a crisp, electric quality. The new year presents us with the opportunity for a fresh start. A blank canvas for each of us to bring our vision to life.

Interestingly, we see the fresh start the new year provides, but we don’t see we also have this opportunity with each new day. Few of us see 365 small white canvases (366 in leap years like 2024); we only see one expansive yearly canvas. When most of us have “messed it up” by the end of January, we shrug it off, return to our old habits, and vow to do better in 2025. This is evident by comparing the number of people in the gym during the first week of January and the last. What we set out to do on January 1 often gets abandoned in a few weeks, if not days. Most of us will resume again, but not until the following turn of the year.

As we set our wishes, dreams, goals, and One Word for 2024, let’s accept and embrace the beauty of imperfections. Consider the year as a mosaic, where each day is a small tile contributing to the bigger picture. Not all tiles will be perfect, just like not all days will be the same. Some tiles may have a chip or a missing portion of the design, symbolizing the days we face challenges or setbacks. But these imperfect tiles, these challenging days, add depth and character to the beauty of the bigger picture. They make our journey through the year not just unique, but also meaningful.

This year, let’s focus on creating a beautiful mosaic of our life. Each day, starting from January 1, 2024, and every day that follows, is a fresh start, a new tile to add to our mosaic. If one day doesn’t go as planned, remember there’s always a new day, a new opportunity to try again to create the life you want. Even a blank tile or a pattern that didn’t turn out as expected adds to the beauty of the bigger picture. These unexpected turns and twists make our year-long pilgrimage both invigorating and satisfying. So, let’s embrace each day and opportunity and create a beautiful mosaic of our lives, one day at a time.

Wishing you a happy and fulfilling 2024.

I will post on the 1st and 15th of the month in the coming year. Thank you for continuing to read my work.
