Martina helps her 5-year old daughter put on her shoes. She is running late, again. No matter how hard she tries, she is always running late. She has to drop her daughter off at daycare before heading to work at the hospital, where she works as a nurse in the ICU. Martina wonders how Mr. Allen is doing. He suffered a heart attack last night and is scheduled for open-heart surgery this morning. She cares for her patients like they are part of her own family. She grabs her daughter’s bag and takes her hand as they shuffle out the front door towards the car. This will be a stressful day.
Jo unloads her bike, puts in her iPods, turns on her favorite music, and hits the trail. It’s been weeks since she’s been able to just listen to music and spin her way through the flat Minnesota farmland. She watches birds chase each other through the clear blue sky and chipmunks and field mice dart across the asphalt path as she pedals past. A beautiful day with no stress. Just Jo, her bike, the music, and the miles as they come and go. This day is a gift!
Marie sits and stares at the open email on her computer screen. She is empty and numb. She needs to cancel her appointments with clients for today. Instead of helping them find the homes of their dreams, Marie needs to make arrangements for her mom’s final resting place. Even though her mom has been on hospice for the past 2 weeks, she isn’t prepared for this. For the grief, the emails, the reshuffling of life to make way for what is necessary now. This will be a long, emotional day.
Jill takes a deep breath before taking that first step onto the floor of the church. She has something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and the man she loves waiting for her at the end of the aisle. This is the day they have dreamed of together. The day they will celebrate for years and years to come. This day will be a joyous day.
There are over 7.7 billion people on Earth. We all travel through any given 24-hours together, but no two people experience the same day.
