After George Floyd was murdered in May 2020, I began doing a lot of research on system racism and how people of color are treated in the United States. I was aware of inequality but wasn’t as educated and familiar with this subject as I wanted to be. I began listening to podcasts, reading books and articles, and watching videos about systemic racism, history from the perspective of the oppressed, and the stories of the people who fought and are still fighting for equal rights.
I compiled the resources I found in the Google Sheets document linked below. I add resources to it as I find new ones. If you are interested in learning more about system racism and the other side of US History that you didn’t hear in school, I encourage you to check on the resources I provide on this list.
I also wrote a blog in February 2021 about the time I spent immersed in this research.
I encourage you to review these resources, share this research with others, and start conversations about what you have read and what you think about it. The only way we can move forward as one nation is if we bring the events of the past into the light, heal the wounds they have caused, and work to prevent it from happening in the future.
